Nike Golf SUMO Saturday Scheduled for February 2

BEAVERTON, OR (January 24, 2008) – From Jan. 17-19, golf professionals and retailers were able to see the latest and greatest in new golf equipment at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. Now, consumers across the country will be able to see and demo the new SasQuatch (SQ) SUMO drivers from Nike Golf.

Golf retailers and facilities across the United States will be hosting special SUMO Saturday events on Feb. 2. This is the first day that Nike Golf’s new SQ SUMO 5000 and SQ SUMO(2) 5900 drivers are available in stores. The SQ SUMO 5000 features a traditional rounded club head design providing golfers with added distance while allowing them to shape their shots more. The SQ SUMO(2) 5900 is the next generation of square head drivers that result in longer, straighter shots.

“Our new SQ SUMO drivers represent the most advanced technology in golf equipment and golfers are going to love how they look, feel and, most important, perform,” said Stan Grissinger, Category Business Director of Club and Balls for Nike Golf. “With the SQ SUMO(2) 5900, we have ensured that square is here to stay. Since our introduction of the first SQ SUMO driver last year, we have added square technology to an entire family of products: drivers, irons, fairway woods and hybrids.”

Named SUMO for the SUPER MOMENT of Inertia created by Nike Golf’s geometric designs, the SQ SUMO drivers have the highest MOI (Moment of Inertia) in golf. Nike Golf has evolved the leading innovation of geometric design to bring golfers even more distance, forgiveness and accuracy through new record levels of MOI. These products have proven successful at the highest levels of golf with seven PGA TOUR wins on the PGA TOUR in the past 12 months.

Retailers hosting special SUMO Saturday events on Feb. 2 include all Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith stores. To find a full list of SUMO Saturday retailers as well as additional information about SUMO golf equipment, consumers can log onto www.nikegolf.com, click on SUMO Saturday and enter a city and zip code.

Nike Statement Regarding Tiger Woods

Nike Statement Regarding Tiger Woods
18 June, 2008

Beaverton, OR (18 June, 2008) – In light of this news, we are further in awe of Tiger’s remarkable accomplishment in winning the U.S. Open. Prevailing in the national championship is tough even when fully healthy. What we all witnessed over the past week was an incredibly gutsy performance by an amazing athlete.

It goes without saying that the temporary absence of an athlete with Tiger’s vast influence will be felt at all levels throughout the game. However, Nike Golf’s singular and most important focus at this time is to support Tiger with what he needs to do for his own wellbeing. We are certain that Tiger will approach his goal of full recovery with the same level of superior focus and quest for excellence as he does as a champion on the golf course.

As we said, it goes without saying that the temporary absence of an athlete with Tiger’s vast influence will be felt at all levels throughout the game. With that said, Tiger’s enduring impact on the Nike brand and business is so enormous that it resonates positively even when he’s not competing.

In the meantime, our presence and success on Tour will continue on its dominant path, led by our team of Nike Golf athletes who have joined Tiger in delivering eight Nike Golf wins, with five different winners. With Trevor Immelman’s Masters win in April, Nike Golf athletes have won both of golf’s majors this year. In fact, Nike Golf athletes own seven of the top 25 spots in the world rankings, with K.J. Choi, Stewart Cink, and Anthony Kim all joining Tiger and Trevor in the top 20. We look forward to more wins in 2008, and beyond that to the healthy return of Tiger when he’s fully ready.
