On Sunday, Michelle Wie posted a message on her Facebook fan page:
“I have some really exciting news to share with you guys … tomorrow! I will give you one clue, ba-ba-ba-ba-baaaaa!”
“Ba-ba-ba-ba-baaaaa”? The Golden Arches? McDonald’s? Yes, Wie has a new sponsor, and she’s already shot a commercial for the global burger chain. You can’t stop McDonald’s, you can’t even contain them. They march on in their quest to make the whole world, and not just Americans, fat.
Which reminds me: McDonald’s has a dollar breakfast menu, and I have $5 just sittin’ in my pocket …
During her struggles in 2007 and 2008, Wie lost some sponsors. Other sponsors – notably Nike – stuck by her. Now that she’s won on the LPGA Tour and performed brilliantly in the Solheim Cup, Wie is gaining new sponsors again. First Kia, now McDonald’s.
The Sports Business Journal reported that the deal is for two years and that Wie’s McDonald’s commercial debuts in April.
