PGA TOUR, Heritage Classic search for 2011 sponsor

The PGA TOUR and Heritage Classic Foundation, host organization for the Verizon Heritage, announced today that Verizon will not renew as the tournament’s title sponsor after the current contract expires following the 2010 event, and that they will immediately begin the search for a new sponsor.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — While Heath Slocum took home The Barclays title, the real winners from the 2009 event were area non-profits, especially those that participated in the tournament’s TICKETS Fore CHARITY”! program. Tournament officials announced the results of the inaugural campaign, in which 501(c)(3) organizations promoted tournament tickets to benefit their organization. One-hundred percent of the net proceeds from the ticket sales — net proceeds exclude tax, shipping or processing fees — was returned directly to charity: 75 percent to the charity promoting the tickets and 25 percent to The First Tee of Metropolitan New York.

NFL legend Rice to host, play in 2010 Stonebrae Classic

HAYWARD, Calif. — The PGA TOUR’s Nationwide Tour and the Stonebrae Classic have announced that NFL legend Jerry Rice will serve as tournament host and that the Jerry Rice 127 Foundation has been named as the “primary receiver” of the charitable proceeds generated by the annual event at TPC San Francisco Bay at Stonebrae. An accomplished golfer, Rice also will receive a sponsor’s exemption to compete against the pros.
